Making plans for Phoenix

Home / hiking / Making plans for Phoenix

So I’m heading out to Phoenix in about ten days . Scottsdale, actually. For a yoga festival of all things. I’ve never done anything like this before and I don’t really know what to expect. I’m heading out a day and a half early to explore the area. A friend gave me some great recommendations for hiking in Phoenix proper, which will be nice given that I really don’t want to rent a car. Ride share is the way to go! Have you heard of the McDowell Mountain trails? I guess there is a gateway trail that is a four or five mile loop. Busy on the weekends but I plan to get up and do it early on Thursday morning so I should be just fine.

Ok, I just looked it up on a map and I’m super pumped. Desert hiking is new to me. Yes, bring plenty of water and sunscreen and start early. And it looks like a Lyft or an Uber can get me there from my Airbnb.

Speaking of Airbnb, it’s the only way to go. The resort hotel where they are holding the conference was going to be $970 for four nights. The condo I’m renting is three or four miles away and four nights will be about $420. So half the price. But the best part: It has a bedroom and a guest bed so I’m splitting it three ways with a couple of friends. Seriously, if you’ve never tried one you need to get on it. You can see photos of the place, read the reviews, communicate with the owner. In this case, I think I’m dealing with a management company, which is pretty common. But I’ve had great luck in Chicago and New York and even Hawaii, and stayed in some over the top fantastic places and some dirt cheap get the job done places in Europe and Mexico.

Ok, well I didn’t get around to yoga. But it’s bed time here so that will have to wait until tomorrow.
